 MADISON HUTCHINSON  (Defence)

 
  Bemidji University - (Beavers)

Madison Hutchinson of the Pembina Valley Hawks has commited to attend school and play hockey at Bemidji State located in Bemidji Minnesota starting next season. The Bemidji State Beavers are a NCAA D1 Program that plays in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) one of the toughest leagues in the NCAA.

Hutchinson who hails from Manitou where she attends Nellie McClung Collegiate is arguably one of the top defense ever to compete in the MFMHL. The Captain of the Hawks has been a member of 3 MFMHL Championship teams and in 2012 led her team to Hockey Canada's Esso Cup National Midget Championship and along the way was named MFMHL MVP and the Top Defense at the National Championship. This season Hutchinson was a unanimous MFMHL All-star selection to the First Team. Hutchinson is a 2 time member of Hockey Manitoba's Program of Excellence U18 Team earning a Bronze (2011) and Silver (2012) at Hockey Canada's U18 National Championship. Over her career with the Hawks Hutchinson has played 200 games scoring 42 gaols and adding 137 assists for 179 points.  Maddy, along with her team, also won the Manitoba Female Midget league title and Provincial title every year she played with the Hawks!

Bemidji State Head Coach Steve Sertich talks about Hutchinson:

“Madison Hutchinson is an outstanding young puck-moving defenseman who will really be a player to watch. She has size and a tremendous hockey IQ and she brings an outstanding skill level to the rink. We have high expectations for Madison and hopefully she will be a contributor right away. She has all the skills necessary to be a future leader in our program.”

Hutchinson who is an honor student plans on studying chemistry and biology at Bemidji. The MFMHL congratulates Madison on her outstanding accomplishments during her midget career and wishes  her continued success with her future academic and hockey endeavors at Bemidgi State.

 

BRITTNI MOWAT (Goaltender)

Bemidji University - Beavers

The MFMHL is pleased to announce that Brittni Mowat of the Pembina Valley Hawks has commited to attend school at and play hockey for  commencing the 2013-14 season. Bemidji State is located in Bemidji Minnesota and the Beavers play in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) which is the top NCAA D1 league in the United States. This season Mowat was named to the MFMHL  All-star selection to the First Team.

Mowat, a 5' 7" goaltender from Glenboro, has been the top player at her position in the MFMHL over the past 2 seasons and during that time has an outstanding record of 81-25-14 while backstopping the Hawks to 2 MFMHL titles,  a Canada West Regional and Hockey Canada Esso Cup National Championship in 2012. Mowat has posted a GAA of 1.65 and save % of .941 in 123 games with the Hawks during that time frame. At the 2012 National Championship Mowat was named the top goalie in the tournament.

Mowat has also particpated in Hockey Manitoba's Program of Excellence being name to Team Manitoba in 2012 and helped the team earn a Silver Medal at Hockey Canada's U18 National Championship as their #1 goaltender.  Britt along with her team also won the Manitoba Female Midget league title and Provincial title everyone year she played with the Hawks!

Bemidji State Head Coach Steve Sertich on Mowat: “We have been accustomed to great goaltending for the past few seasons and Brittni Mowat brings the potential to be another great goaltender for us here at BSU. She has shown an ability to win big games with her success at the Esso Cup and this year with helping lead Team Manitoba to a Silver Medal in Canada's U-18 Championship. She has tremendous self-confidence in her abilities as a goaltender and she seems to love the challenge of trying to steal games from the goaltender position. She will hopefully push very hard to play for us right away.”

Mowat is an Honor Student at Glenboro Collegiate and is undecided on her field of study at Bemidji State at this time. The MFMHL wants to congratulate Brittni on her outstanding midget career to date and wishes her all the best with her academic and hockey endeavors in the future at Bemidji State.

 

 

CASSIDY CARELS (forward)

 

Providence College (Friars) - Rhode Island

Cassidy Carels a forward with the Pembina Valley Hawks has committed to play for the Hockey East NCAA Division 1 - Providence Friars next season which is located in Providence, Rhode Island.  This season Carels was a unanimous MFMHL All-star selection to the First Team.  Carels who hails from Bruxelles, Manitoba was part of the Canadian U18 Team that won a Gold Medal at the 2013 IIHF Ice Hockey U18 Women's World Championship in Heinola and Vierumaki, Finland from Dec. 29, 2012 to Jan. 5, 2013. 

During the 2011-12 season Carels won a gold medal with the Pembina Valley Hawks at the 2012 Esso Cup, Canada's National Female Midget Championship, in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Islands. Carels also was part of Team Manitoba that earned a Silver Medal at the 2012 Hockey Canada U18 National Championships. Over her career with Pembina Valley Carels has scored 161 goals and added 132 assists for 293 points in 213 games.  Cass along with her team also won the Manitoba Female Midget league title and Provincial title everyone year she played with the Hawks!

"Cass is the type of forward that every program needs and we are excited to have," Providence Head Coach Bob Deraney said. "Her offensive instincts, high energy and skill fits perfectly into our style of play. Her natural ability coupled with the way we want to play is going to allow her to be an immediate impact player for us."

     JESSICA KAMINSKY    

COMMITS TO UNION COLLEGE IN NEW YORK

   The Pembina Valley Hawks of the MFMHL are pleased to announce that Forward Jessica Kaminsky has committed to play for the Union College Dutchmen commencing with 2012-13 season. Union College is located in Schenectady, NY and their hockey program plays out of the ECAC (Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference) within the NCAA.

   Kaminsky who is from La Salle and attends Fort Richmond Collegiate currently leads the Hawks in scoring with 51 goals and 51 assists for 102 points in 48 games and was the MFMHL's regular season scoring champ. Kaminsky is a dynamic offensive player and over the past 2 seasons with the Hawks has recorded 213 points including 105 goals over 112 games and was a huge part of the Hawks success in winning both the 2011 Provincial and MFMHL Midget Female Championships.

   In 2011 Kaminsky also made Hockey Manitoba's Program of Excellence Final 25 and has been one of the top players in the MFMHL and "AAA" Female Hockey in Manitoba over the past 2 seasons.  Kaminsky was apart of the 2012 Esso National Title bringing home Gold with her team played at PEI, Charlottetwon

Caley Steinert (defense)

St. Thomas University - Fredericton, NB.  A huge contributor to the Pembina Valley Female Hawks three league titles and two Provincial Gold Medals, the aggressive Steinert totalled 77 points (30 goals and 47 assists) in her three-year career.  Named to Top 40 in the Program of Excellence 2010 Summer Camp, Caley was also apart of the Central Region team winning Gold at the 2010 Manitoba Winter Games.   The strong Steinert - one of our best defensive blocks will now be apart of the CIS Atlantic University Sports Conference.  The Tommies have also been selected to host the 2014 CIS National Championship.

 


Lindy Brunet (defense)
Mount Royal University Cougars – Calgary AB
Lindy has been an integral part of Pembina Valley's three Manitoba Female Midget Hockey League and two Hockey Manitoba Provincial Championship teams. Lindy helped anchor the best defensive team in the province while contributing offensively with 63 points over her three-year career (12 goals and 51 assists) averaging .52 points per game from the point.  Lindy was part of the 2010 Manitoba Games Gold Medal winning Central Region Team and in 2010 made Hockey Manitoba's Program of Excellence Final 40 Summer Camp. She is known for her ability to shut down the opposition's top forwards plus her ability to make strong first passes out of the defensive zone.  In joining the Mount Royal University Lindy will be playing for a program that has excelled in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference and will now be making the jump to the CIS (Canadian Interuniversity Sports) Canada West Conference.

 

 

Ali Nychuk (forward)

Minot State Beavers - North Dakota

Another top performer from the Provincial and MFMHLeague Champion Hawks has chosen to take her game south of the border. Forward Ali Nychuk, has signed on to play for the Minot State Beavers, a University in North Dakota playing in the NCAA's American Collegiate Hockey Association. Although thought of as a hard nosed aggressive forward for the Hawks the last two seasons, Ali posted 9 goals & 19 assists for 28 points in her 87 career games with the champs, along with 133 PIM's, and her role with the team was extremely valuable the last few seasons. A big contributor in and out of the dressing room as a team motivator and leader,  this multi sport athlete with a determined attitude to win will be a great contributor to the Beavers for years to come.   

 

 

 

 

Kayleigh Wiens (forward)
University of Manitoba Bisons – Winnipeg MB
Wiens is a 5’5” forward that finished this season with the Hawks after they captured the 2010-11 Provincial Female "AA" Midget Championship, their second in a row. Wiens who is from Winkler, MB and the Assistant Captain with the Hawks was instrumental in the Hawks winning three consecutive Manitoba Female Midget Hockey League (MFMHL) Championships. Over her three year career with the Hawks, Wiens has averaged 1.12 points/game scoring 65 goals and picking up 71 assists for 136 points in 125 games played. Known for her speed and strong two-way play, Wiens has been a standout in the MFMHL.  Wiens has also been named to the Hockey Manitoba Program of Excellence U18 Team Manitoba for the past two seasons and this year at the 2011 Canada Winter Games in Halifax was third in tournament scoring during the national event with 16 points (8g, 8a). Bison Head Coach describes Kayleigh as “an extremely hard worker and an excellent athlete. Her physical and gritty style of play will be a great fit with the way our team plays and we look forward to having her in our program. She also brings a winning mentality after two straight provincial midget ‘AA’ championships with Pembina Valley and that combined with her Team Manitoba experience should help her make an immediate impact at the university level.” 

 

Kristine Grenier (forward)
Mercyhurst College Lakers – Erie PA
Kristine has been an outstanding player for the Hawks over her 3 year career and leaves the team as their all time leading scorer amassing 303 points in 116 games played (169 goals and 134 assists)  for an incredible 2.71 point/game average.  Hawk's Captain Kristine led them to three straight Manitoba Female Midget Hockey League (MFMHL) titles along with two Hockey Manitoba Provincial Championships plus numerous tournament wins.   Kristine has played on Hockey Manitoba's Program of Excellence U18 Team for the past three years and this year was selected as team captain for the 2011 Canada Winter Games where she led the tournament with 12 goals and was tied for second in points with 17 in 7 games as Team Manitoba won 6 games and lost 1. This season Kristine also attended the U18 Team Canada evaluation camp where she led all players in goals scored.  Kristine is known as a leader who plays a tenacious and aggressive style of hockey and has always been a tremendous offensive threat. She leaves the Hawks and the MFMHL as arguable one of the top players to ever play in the MFMHL.

Melissa Klippenstein  (forward)
Minnesota State Mavericks
Melissa is 3-year player with the Hawks who is a power forward and has the ability to control the corners. She also has very good puck skills and has been one of the Hawks top point getters during PV's two league and 2010 provincial championship.
 

 

 

Cara McMannis  (forward)
St. Scholastica Saints

Cara is one of the hardest working players with the Hawks. She is a 3-year player on PV and is known for her strong two-way play - however can contribute offensively as is shown by being third on the Hawks in points during their double championship season.

 

Shanley  Peters  (goalie)

Wisconsin-Superior Yellowjackets
Shanley was a 3-year player for Pembina Valley who was instrumental in the team winning two League Championships and the 2010 Provincial Championship. An atheltic goalie who is known for making big saves and several at a time, Shanley can steal a game for her team.

 

Former MFMHL Standout Peters Named Women's Player of the Week

    SAINT PAUL (December 6, 2011) -- UW-Superior goaltender Shanley Peters (Gnadenthal, Manitoba / Garden Valley Collegiate) has been selected Player of the Week in the NCHA Women's Conference for the week ending December 4.  Peters made 66 saves in a series split with rival UW-River Falls. 

   Last Friday night Peters made 31 saves on 32 shots while leading the Yellowjackets to a 2-1 overtime win.  With the game tied 0-0, the sophomore made ten saves in the third period.  The only goal she allowed came with the Falcons on the power play.

In game two of the series, Peters stopped 35 of 27 shots in a 2-1 loss.  She made double-digit saves in all three periods and one of the two goals against came with UWRF on the power play.

Peters owns the third best goals against average in the NCHA (1.45) and the third best save percentage (.941).  She is 2-1-1 in NCHA play this season.   The Yellowjackets are currently ranked 9th in NCAA DII

Leiette was instrumental in helping the Hawks win the championship in their inaugural season with her solid technical style of play and is currently in her second season with the Bisons.


Danielle Vigier (defence)
University of Manitoba Bisons

Danielle anchored a solid defence in the Hawks first ever championship season and was a very skilled D with great speed, and now brings it to a very good Bisons team.
