Crunch series
1/11/2011
January 7th: The match-up vs Eastman was the first together as a complete team in a while and was used as a debut for some line changes with players given different roles to start off the new year (minus Steinert who will remain on the injury list yet for awhile).  Although we out-shot the visiting Selects 36-23 and had control of the play quite often, the Selects play an agressive game and finding the back of the net was a challenge for us. The defence started off the scoring with Jen Derksen getting a point shot through from Van Deynze, then Kris Grenier stick handled through and scored from a Nychuk pass set up by Hutchinson. Madison Hutchinson then finished off the second with our second defence goal of the night from Wiens. The Selects made a game of it getting within one goal in the third period when Jess Kaminsky then finished the scoring from Grenier and Wiens. Kristin Friesen was tested often and stood her ground all game to earn herself another well deserved win.The game was a great test for the new lines to start playing together as we host the MN. Crunch in another good match.

January 8th: The first game of our series vs the Crunch was all we expected as the final shot tally was 32-30 in our favour in a fast paced and aggressive affair. After coming out hard and pressuring them very well in the first period, we still finished it down 1-0. The second saw the team regroup and mount the come back, started when newly crowned centre Brooke Drummond stuffed in a rebound in the paint from a great Brunet end to end rush. We then added to the lead on the powerplay when Haley Ostberg's beautiful snap shot from her knees in the slot found its way through from a Grenier - Hutchinson set up. It didn't take long in the third for us to add to the lead when Jessica Kaminsky scored the eventual game winner on her back hand by slicing through the crease like she does so well on a Grenier feed from behind the net. We then spent a little too much time in the box, and add to that a miscue in the neutral zone handing one of their best shooters a breakaway, we let them back into the game. After the tender pulled and a frantic finish, we hung on for a hard fought win, setting the stage for another great game tomorrow morning. Brittni Mowat earned the win in the net today with another great performance providing us with the opportunity to win the game.

January 9th: The second match of our Crunch series was another high spirited game which we grabbed control of right from the drop of the puck and although we came out fast & led the shot clock 14-5 in the first and 25-15 after two periods we went into the dressing room down 2-0. Even after a goaltender switch and some line juggling in the 3rd for a momentum change, we were still unable to get on the score sheet. The final shot tally favoured us 36-23, but it wasn't our morning, as we ran into a hot Crunch goaltender that stopped everything we threw her way and we did not help ourselves by missing the net on several occasions. Another bump in the road to learn from and now a week to prepare for another challenge next weekend with the Blazers.
