Playoffs

March 14: The team flew out of the gate determined for a good start to our first game vs the fast Eastman Selects and it wasn't long before Kristine Grenier put the home team up with her first goal on a great deke from a beautiful pass from Kaminsky. The Selects then promptly answered back with one of their own and looked to be prepared for the challenge, but then Kayleigh Wiens quickly put us ahead for good punching one in as she drove the net on a feed from Grenier moved up ice by tender Mowat. Shortly thereafter Chelsea Van Deynze added to our lead with a quick snap shot from in the slot area after a sweet Kaminsky & Carels passing play. The teams then exchanged chances for the rest of the 1st & for most of the 2nd until Chelsea Van Deynze added her second of the night on another snipe from the crease area with assists going again to Kaminsky & Carels near the close of the period, as that line continues to gel offensively. Much of the same in the 3rd, until Mowat strayed out of her crease and fed Kristine Grenier with another pass & watched her skate end to end and hammer it into the net @ the far end for her second of the night. Near the end of the game the Selects added a second goal to make the final 5-2. Both teams got off 31 shots, with Brittni Mowat turning aside 29 then for the win, and putting herself in the team playoff points race with 2 assists !
Practice time then Provincials,,,,,,,,,,.

March 12 - After another cancellation and unfortunately short two players due to the effects of the Blizzard we made the trek west to play game two of our series vs Westman. The Wildcats came out flying and gave it all they had to try and tie the series up, and play was end to end all day. Jen Derksen continued her scoring streak with our 1st goal, a low point shot that found the back of the net from Hutchinson & Carels. Before the period ended Lindy Brunet put us ahead two with a great end to end rush on a feed from Braun. The Wildcats really pressed hard for a goal in the second and outshot us 20-7 as we relied on Kristin Friesen in net to keep the puck out. Caley Steinert then put us up 3 on the power play with a breakaway goal from a beautiful Hutchinson stretch pass started off by Carels again. Not giving up, the Wildcats countered with one of their own before the period ended. The ref let the girls play in the third & saw both teams work hard for the all important next goal which eventually came from the stick of Madison Hutchinson when she drove the net & re-directed a great pass from Carels fed up ice by Derksen. Friesen was great in net today, turning aside 42 for her 1st playoff win.

March 9
- We started the playoff run off with game 1 in the small confines of the Glenboro rink & although skated well against the young hard working Wildcats we found ourselves trailing 2-1 after the first frame. Our veteran team didn't panic, made a few adjustments during the break, and then came out in the second & responded with 4 goals. Jen Derksen had tied the game up with a power play marker & the lone goal in the 1st from Grenier. The 2nd then saw Kristine Grenier promptly ice the Wildcats with a natural hat trick, with helpers from linemates Ostberg & Wiens and from a point shot by Derksen. Kayleigh Wiens had the period's last goal set up by Grenier & Hutchinson. The final shot tally had us ahead 30 to 21, with Brittni Mowat turning aside 19 in front of her home town fans for her first playoff victory as a Hawk.
