Peters named WIAC Athlete of the Week again

The Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) announced its weekly awards today and Yellowjacket senior goaltender Shanley Peters(Gnadenthal, Manitoba/Garden Valley Collegiate) has been named the WIAC Athlete of the Week for women's hockey.

Peters led the Yellowjackets to a 2-0-0 weekend and a pair of conference wins over UW-Eau Claire. On Friday night Peters stopped 18 shots as the Yellowjackets bested the Blugolds 5-0 at Wessman Arena. Less than 24 hours later Peters posted another shutout, this time making 14 saves as the Yellowjackets again won 5-0, this time at the Hobbs Ice Center in Eau Claire.

For the week Peters was 2-0 with a 0.00 goals against average and a 1.000 save percentage.

"I think some people are surprised by the performance we've been getting out of her but they are forgetting that she was an All-American two years ago and she's playing even better now than she did then," Head Coach Dan Laughlin said. "We've been playing some good hockey lately and she has been a big part of that."

The Yellowjackets have won seven games in a row and are unbeaten in their last 11 games, dating back to December 6. Peters has been on a roll of her own. After the two wins last weekend, Peters has posted shutouts in four straight games and has held opponents off the board for 270:43.

On the year Peters is 13-2-4 with a 1.18 goals against average, a .946 save percentage and six shutouts. She has also been on the move in the pages of the Yellowjacket record book, where she now resides in the top five in most goaltending categories.
