The Hawks are pleased to announce that Sage McElroy-Scott has signed a U SPORTS Letter of Intent and will join the UNB Varsity Reds women’s hockey team in 2018-19.“I want to stay in Canada and play hockey at the highest level,” said McElroy-Scott. “I like that the school isn’t too big. Coming from a smaller town, it’s a perfect fit for me. ”The 17-year-old forward, from Morden, Manitoba, is currently the second-leading scorer with the Pembina Valley Hawks, of the Manitoba Female Midget Hockey League. She’s scored 12 goals and recorded 10 assists in 14 games. Last season, McElroy-Scott finished as the team’s leading scorer. “We’re very excited to bring Sage on board for next year,” said Hilworth, head coach of the Varsity Reds. “She possesses a natural instinct for the net and has an intelligence that will allow her to be successful at the Atlantic University Sport level.” McElroy-Scott is captaining the Hawks this season. Her hockey resume includes a trip to last year’s Esso Cup national women’s midget championship, where her Hawks lost in the bronze medal game, and a Manitoba women’s midget championship. “Sage has been a key contributor to her team’s success the past three years, accumulating 177 points (94 goals + 83 assists) in 199 games, along with wearing a letter in her junior and senior years,” said Hilworth. “We think we’ll see those big contributions continue here. ”McElroy-Scott plans on studying Kinesiology and Education at UNB. Congrats and Good Luck Sage!
